Years ago, I was asked by a young man if he could take my picture. I was on the corner of Divisadero and Page in San Francisco, dressed in my steam punk best (complete with top hat and eye makeup), and on my way to provide Heroic Tarot readings for an event. I was rather focused on getting downtown to the corporate party, but the sparkle in the man’s eyes convinced me to pause for a moment and let him take the picture. Little did I know that I was taking part in something that would become a movement. Starting out as a form of photographic storytelling, then evolving into a community, Dijon Bowden’s Souls of San Francisco project now has a documentary chronicling its rise and effect. Film Hero describes it best:

The world is full of magazines chock-full of articles that will tell you what to wear, eat, and think, all in the mindset of convincing you to conform to a set of established conventions. Where’s the fun in that? I’m happy to have discovered a publication that not only doesn’t mind a bit of imperfection, it celebrates it!
While my focus was on the ayahuasca healing retreat for which I signed up, my adventures in Peru also included glimpsing dolphins in the Amazon River, hugging monkeys and sloths in an animal rehabilitation center (and getting bit and scratched by a toucan!), and witnessing the beauty of the rainforest in a national park. I have so many pictures to share and I’ll be uploading them on my Instagram (@heroictarot) starting this week!

Today I begin my diet to prepare my body for my trip to Peru to engage in ayahuasca ceremony in the Shipibo peoples tradition. I will be undergoing six ceremonies in ten days. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this particular plant medicine, retreat center Caya Shobo provides this explanation:
Hello, Everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and you’re starting off this new week with a spring in your step! I have some fantastic news I want to share with you!
This May I am taking a leap into the unknown and embarking on a journey the likes of which I have never experienced before.
I’m sending you all high vibes from New York City! A dear friend of mine gifted me a trip to the Big Apple for the Star Trek 50th Anniversary Convention and I have truly enjoyed myself. Everyone I met was welcoming and kind. I do hope to return soon!
This week, I celebrate my Solar Return and there’s a lot I want to share with you:

I’m thrilled to share a new Five Star Yelp Review for Heroic Tarot:
Amazing reading and 100x better than any reading I’ve received before. Of course it was amazingly accurate but more importantly, it actually helped me as a person instead of just focusing on ruminating thoughts or problems. Storm really, really knows his cards and you can tell he is passionate about readings. More importantly, he is passionate about helping you as an individual. This was better than therapy. It was an amazing and worthwhile experience.

If there’s one thing I love as much as reading Tarot, it’s teaching it! I’m so excited to share with you my newly expanded Arcana Academy, a mystery school in which I share my magical knowledge with you! There are three ways you can get involved!
Arcana Academy officially started a few years ago when a client asked me to teach them how to read the Tarot, resulting in a two-and-half year course of individual study. This led to me working with several students in a one-on-one capacity for different spans of time. I continue to take on students even now. Earlier this year, due to popular interest, I offered introductory Tarot classes to the public. They were a great success, leading me to create three tiers of classes honoring the different levels of interest and commitment people have expressed. There are three ways you can can interact with Arcana Academy:
