Heroic Tarot became a San Francisco sensation, winning multiple awards in the process, by combining the X-Men with traditional Tarot concepts. Today, I am excited to announce the debut of Batman Tarot!

Today I took a Mastering Crowdfunding class by comic creator and Kickstarter wizard Alex Woolfson. The event was part of The Isotope Comic Book Lounge’s Isotope University, which offers curriculum that “focuses on practical, real world comics industry knowledge to equip students for success in creating and selling comics. Today’s guest instructor was the author of the yaoi science fiction graphic novel Artifice and the queer superhero series The Young Protectors.

I’m excited to share a fantastic book with you by psychologist Shawn Achor about changing our approach to success and happiness. In the appropriately titled The Happiness Advantage, Achor explores how “conventional wisdom” states that if we work hard, we will succeed and then find happiness. If I can just get that promotion, find the perfect mate, gain the muscle mass, then I will be happy. Achor says, no, it’s the other away around. This principle reminds me of an anonymous quote I was told recently, “Be happy as you await happiness.” The message is that we must accept where we are, and find enjoyment in the process as we work toward the desired goal. The means must be as rewarding as the result because “happiness is the center around which success orbits” (61).
For over a decade, Achor researched and taught positive psychology techniques to maximize happiness and improve potential. His focus is primarily about how we can raise our effectiveness at work in a corporate setting, but his concepts are applicable to all aspects of our lives. In this passage, he explains we have a choice about how we look at the world:
A Heroic Tarot client treated her friend to a reading this past weekend. This is what she had to say about their experience::
It was just great meeting you! My friend couldn’t stop talking about her reading which was spot on! I totally liked your style and interpretation of the cards and I think that my friend’s reading helped to give her much clarity, validation and awareness to think outside of her universe a bit….so I thank you for this. Your home was very warm and inviting and please know that we will be back for a visit with you.

Recently I was contacted by an out of town traveler who wanted me to come to the Westin St. Francis hotel and read for her, her mother and her daughter. She told me they were visiting from the Midwest and would only be in town for the weekend. I was happy to relate that I had room in my schedule and so we arranged a time.
Once I arrived at Union Square, I was surprised to find out that the readings were the idea of the woman’s sixteen-year-old daughter. This young woman had found herself interested in Tarot, and upon doing some research, had decided that I was her first choice.
With the holiday season approaching, I have been reflecting on the fun I have bringing Heroic Tarot to house parties and corporate events. This past October I was impressed by the variety of presentation and panache of the homes and businesses to which I was invited. From the gritty streets of SOMA to the prestigious homes of Pacific Heights, the Bay Area has shown me it certainly knows how to party!
One of the October events for which Heroic Tarot provided readings took place in SOMA at a Halloween party for a tech startup. The party began after the workday ended and all of the employees were dressed up in fantastic costumes. I took it as a very good omen that my first client for the evening was a man dressed as Captain Jean Luc-Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Readings took place in an all glass meeting room and two or three of the employees kept track of the sign up sheet for me, ushering in the appropriate person one after the other. Before their readings, many of my clients expressed that they had never had an experience with Tarot before, and afterward told me that they enjoyed the new perspective the reading gave them. I have found that Tarot and tech mixes quite well as both subjects are systems of information that require some degree of analysis. It is not surprising to me that San Francisco holds space for both magic and science!
“The only real voyage consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes; in seeing the universe through the eyes of another, one hundred others–in seeing the hundred universes that each of them sees.” ~
About five years ago, my friend Sheila Zuni came to see me and asked if I was open to using new Tarot decks. At that time I had won numerous awards for my X-Men Tarot system and it was (and is) a common misconception that that was all I used. Sheila asked me this question while protectively holding something to her heart. I smiled and explained that yes, I used many decks in my Tarot practice and was open to working with more. With a great sigh of relief, my friend gifted me her personal copy of the Voyager Tarot.
