Years ago, I was asked by a young man if he could take my picture. I was on the corner of Divisadero and Page in San Francisco, dressed in my steam punk best (complete with top hat and eye makeup), and on my way to provide Heroic Tarot readings for an event. I was rather focused on getting downtown to the corporate party, but the sparkle in the man’s eyes convinced me to pause for a moment and let him take the picture. Little did I know that I was taking part in something that would become a movement. Starting out as a form of photographic storytelling, then evolving into a community, Dijon Bowden’s Souls of San Francisco project now has a documentary chronicling its rise and effect. Film Hero describes it best:

The world is full of magazines chock-full of articles that will tell you what to wear, eat, and think, all in the mindset of convincing you to conform to a set of established conventions. Where’s the fun in that? I’m happy to have discovered a publication that not only doesn’t mind a bit of imperfection, it celebrates it!
Today I begin my diet to prepare my body for my trip to Peru to engage in ayahuasca ceremony in the Shipibo peoples tradition. I will be undergoing six ceremonies in ten days. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this particular plant medicine, retreat center Caya Shobo provides this explanation:
I’m sending you all high vibes from New York City! A dear friend of mine gifted me a trip to the Big Apple for the Star Trek 50th Anniversary Convention and I have truly enjoyed myself. Everyone I met was welcoming and kind. I do hope to return soon!
This week, I celebrate my Solar Return and there’s a lot I want to share with you:
- Online Scheduling: You can now sign up for Heroic Tarot readings, classes & workshops directly from my personal calendar!
If there’s one thing I love as much as reading Tarot, it’s teaching it! I’m so excited to share with you my newly expanded Arcana Academy, a mystery school in which I share my magical knowledge with you! There are three ways you can get involved!
Arcana Academy officially started a few years ago when a client asked me to teach them how to read the Tarot, resulting in a two-and-half year course of individual study. This led to me working with several students in a one-on-one capacity for different spans of time. I continue to take on students even now. Earlier this year, due to popular interest, I offered introductory Tarot classes to the public. They were a great success, leading me to create three tiers of classes honoring the different levels of interest and commitment people have expressed. There are three ways you can can interact with Arcana Academy:
“Tarot is a living commitment to the truth.” ~Rachel Pollack
Would you like to strengthen your perception, create internal balance, or impose your will upon chaos? Then this class is for you!
Arcana Academy Presents: Awakening the Unconscious: An Introduction to Tarot, a three hour workshop introducing basic tenets of Tarot in an intimate class setting. Through playful exercises and creative storytelling, you will become acquainted with the archetypes and symbols of the Major and Minor Arcana and gain a personal sense of how to connect with them. Together we will create a sacred container to explore, gather and translate timeless spiritual wisdom.
Hey San Francisco folks! My artwork is on the walls of The Sycamore in the Mission and I wanna hang out with y’all! Come have a drink, eat some food (they have a cool menu and the kitchen is open until Gremlins feeding time!) and check out my paintings in “The Theban Mysteries Series.” Maybe we’ll get really absurd and practice our Theban script together, lol! The mixer is this coming Sunday, October 25th at 7 pm.
For those of you can’t make it, please enjoy my artwork in high definition and consider purchasing a piece for your collection! Bright Blessings! ~Storm
ANCIENT ALPHABET APPLIED IN ABSTRACT ARTWORK
I’m super excited to present my new series of mixed media collage paintings: THE THEBAN MYSTERIES! I’ve always been drawn to the lyrical lines of the ancient Theban alphabet and found it a great joy to incorporate the strange 16th century cipher script with comic book artwork, Tarot cards, and decorative art paper.
After carefully creating collage compositions, I added multiple strokes of paint to build depth and playfulness to each artwork. It was fun to discover what images survived the layering process. The Theban messages were added near the end and spell out the title of each painting. There are nine splashy pop culture pieces in total. Add one of THE THEBAN MYSTERIES to your art collection today!
Note: A separate shipping invoice will be sent after purchase for buyers located outside of San Francisco.
Today I had the good fortune to spend some time with Dijon Bowden, Bay Area storyteller and creator of the street photography project Souls of Society. Dijon took my photo on Divisadero Street in 2011 when the project was in its nascent stage and going by the name Souls of San Francisco. I was on my way to read Tarot for an event and was dressed up in steampunk clothing complete with top hat and cloak. Dijon’s photograph remains a loving snapshot from another time, capturing a vulnerability and presence that still surprises and impresses me.
