The Moon

“The moon is a loyal companion. It never leaves. It’s always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Every day it’s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human. Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.” ~Tahereh Mafi

This July, Heroic Tarot dances with the Moon, herald of mystery and change, bringer of messages through dreams and visions, and ruler of the subconscious! When it appears in a reading, it is time to turn away from external concerns and go within for deep contemplation. Rachel Pollack, in her book Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom writes,

In divinatory readings the Moon indicates an excitement of the unconscious. We begin to experience strange emotions, dreams, fears, even hallucinations. We find ourselves more intuitive, more psychic.

Oftentimes, when we find ourselves being pulled or drawn by the tides, we fight against the experience. Our fear of the unknown makes it difficult for us to allow the Moon’s peaceful side to emerge. However, the Moon dredges up old fears so we may face and transcend them. In such times it is helpful to focus on this affirmation as written by Mary K. Greer:

I am impelled to evolve beyond my fears and insecurities. I am willing to walk the path to self-knowledge through the unknown inner realm of myself.
