Wolverine by Brent Anderson

Wolverine by Brent Anderson

Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, and what he does is kill people. This image by Brent Anderson from an old issue of Marvel Fanfare (I am not sure of the number, sorry) portrays Wolverine as a harbinger of death, with his trademark claws cross-hatching his face. I love the shadowy specter behind Logan and I am partial to seeing our ‘ol Canuck in his brown and orange costume (designed by John Byrne). Simply splendid splash page.

I beg to differ. What he does best is appear on covers of comics he is not normally in.

  2. Orange and brown Wolverine is my favorite incarnation. It looks more morally ambiguous than the classic “tropical fish” or Astonishing costumes, but it’s still more “good-guy” than his New X-Men or X-Force outfits.

Brent Anderson gives us a wonderfully dangerous-looking Logan. What he does best isn’t very nice, though he’s still on the side of the angels. I don’t know what it is about this picture that makes me believe it captures both sides as well as I feel it does, but there you go. 🙂

I often cite Bill Sienkiewicz as my favorite Wolverine artist, but I forget sometimes how much I enjoy Anderson’s take.
